For example, the three people who finish a race the fastest are "first place," "second place" and "third place" – not "one place," "two place" and "three place." Similarly, the three days at the beginning of each month are the "first," the "second" and the "third" day of the month.

So the most important part of saying the date in English is remembering the ordinal numbers up to 31. This sounds difficult, but remember that the most common suffix for ordinal numbers is "-th." So you just need to remember seven exceptions:

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">1st: first</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">2nd: second</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">3rd: third</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">21st: twenty-first</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">22nd: twenty-second</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">23rd: twenty-third</mdspan>

<mdspan datatext="el1636513579516" class="mdspan-comment">31st: thirty-first</mdspan>

Keep in mind that in writing, English speakers often write dates without suffixes.
