So when you negotiate your salary, choose your words carefully. For example, instead of saying \"pay\" or \"money,\" try less direct words. Here are some options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\"<a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/app\/words\/word\/compensation\/zga0ELstQmCjlQAAAAAVSA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Compensation<\/a>\": Compensation includes everything the company pays you, including money (salary, bonuses and commission, for example) as well as things like benefits and equity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\"Pay scale\" or \"Salary range\": These phrases ask for a range instead of an exact number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But before talking about pay specifically, English speakers will usually say something positive first. Generally, English speakers do this by saying that they <a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/blog\/2022\/03\/22\/how-to-answer-3-common-interview-questions-in-english\/#:~:text=Sometimes%20this%20question,affect%20your%20expectations.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">need more information about the role<\/a> to know what a fair offer would be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also ask the company what they expect to pay. All companies have a budget for the positions they're hiring. Knowing this budget will give you a better starting point for negotiations. Here are some ways to bring this up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I think I need to know more about the role and the company to give you an accurate number. Here are some ways to do that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I understand there are budget <a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/app\/words\/word\/constraint\/zga0ELstQmCjlQAAAAAYcA\">constraints<\/a>, so I want to be flexible.
