During the film\u2019s climax, the main character attempts to confess his love to a woman named Dorothy. Before he can finish, however, Dorothy tells him to stop, then says, \u201cYou had me at \u2018Hello.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means \u201cI fell in love with you the very first time we met.\u201d It\u2019s a very dramatic and romantic moment that movie lovers haven't forgotten.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These days, this quote is used in funny ways to express excitement and enthusiasm. The story is about a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a strange, fantastical world.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We use this expression to talk about things like hobbies or activities that are much deeper or more complicated than we first realized. It can sometimes have a slightly negative nuance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, this expression became more common because of its use in the 1999 science-fiction film <em>The Matrix<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After watching one funny clip, I <strong>fell down the rabbit hole<\/strong> of meme videos on <a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/blog\/travel-fun\/tiktok-or-tick-tock-the-meanings-behind-9-popular-brand-names\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TikTok<\/a>. I spent hours watching them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bring_a_knife_to_a_gunfight\"><\/span><strong>Bring a knife to a gunfight<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This expression is believed to have come from <em>The Untouchables<\/em>, a 1987 film about gangsters in Chicago in the 1930s.\u00a0In one scene, a criminal who only has a knife meets a police officer with a much stronger weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like in the film, this expression is used today when someone is very unprepared for a challenge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We can't compete against the company's expensive lawyers. It would be like <strong>bringing a knife to a gunfight<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%9CShow_me_the_money%E2%80%9D\"><\/span><strong>&#8220;Show me the money.&#8221;<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This line \u2014 another from <em>Jerry Maguire<\/em> \u2014 is spoken by a football player named Rod Tidwell (played by Cuba Gooding Jr). When a sports agent tries to convince Rod to sign a contract with him, Rod replies with this very famous quote. In fact, he says it many times!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video-responsive\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Show Me The Money&quot; | Jerry Maguire\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IpwSXWq1wwU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\"Show me the money\" is another way of saying \"Pay me!\" This quote has been ranked #25 on the list of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AFI%27s_100_Years...100_Movie_Quotes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">top 100 quotes<\/a> by the American Film Institute. These endings often have dramatic scenes, such as beautiful sunsets.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These scenes are so common that we have an expression referring to them. \"Ride off into the sunset\" is usually said with a sarcastic nuance, however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Even if you meet a great partner, don't assume you'll <strong>ride off into the sunset<\/strong> and have a perfect life.
