This can refer to food, art, fashion \u2014&nbsp;almost anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notice that when used this way, \"taste\" followed by \"in.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Nelly has great <strong>taste<\/strong> in books. I've enjoyed every novel she's recommended to me.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Tim has unusual <strong>taste<\/strong> in fashion. He often wears very <a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/blog\/language-tips\/other-ways-to-say-weird\/\">strange<\/a> clothes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>My girlfriend and I have very different <strong>tastes<\/strong> in movies; she likes action while I prefer dramas.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Saying that someone has a \"taste in\" something refers to their general preferences. However, we can use \"taste for\" to talk about what someone prefers at a particular moment. But these days, tastemakers are often called another name: \"influencers\"!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The movie star has been a <strong>tastemaker<\/strong> for years, and whatever products she buys instantly become <a href=\"https:\/\/engoo.com\/blog\/language-tips\/in-vogue-11-alternative-expressions-for-popular\/\">popular<\/a> around the country.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Some DJs are powerful <strong>tastemakers<\/strong> in the music industry, helping many young artists reach new fans.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wrap-up\"><\/span><strong>Wrap-up<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to its use as a verb, \"taste\" as a noun is often just as important in daily conversations for talking about what people like or prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"Taste\" isn't the only food-related word with surprising uses, though.
