3 Ways To Improve Your English Speaking Skills Online

The internet makes it easy to study English anywhere. You can practice reading with news articles, practice listening with podcasts, and practice writing on social media.
But what about speaking?
Yep, you can do that too! Here are three easy ways to improve your English speaking skills online.
1. Practice With Dialogues and Subtitles
Many learners use dialogues with subtitles to practice listening, but you can use them to practice speaking as well.
Choose a scene from your favorite English-language movie or TV show, then pick a character in the scene to use as your 'speaker guide' and watch the scene once or twice.
When it's time for your character to speak, mute the audio and say the lines yourself using the subtitles for help. You might need to do this several times to match the original speed, but that's OK — take your time until you can closely match the character's English.
Once you're comfortable with this level of challenge, increase it by turning off the subtitles and saying the lines from memory! The better you can do this, the more fluent and natural your English will become.

2. Practice With Voice Assistants

Most modern phones have a personal assistant app. Talking to them is a great way to practice speaking English in your everyday life for free.
On Apple devices, the personal assistant is called “Siri,” and on Android devices, it’s “Google Assistant” or "Gemini." If you say, “Hey, Siri” or “OK, Google” to your phone, they’ll ask what they can help you with.
As you may know, you can tell these personal assistants to do lots of stuff for you. For example, you can ask them to set an alarm (“Set an alarm for 7 a.m.”) or open an app (“Open Instagram”).
Talking to your personal assistant is a great way to check your pronunciation. After all, if you don’t pronounce something correctly, it won’t understand you!
You can also ask lots of different questions, such as:
- “Do I need an umbrella today?”
- “What appointments do I have today?”
- “What’s seven divided by ten?”
- “How do you spell ‘caterpillar’?”
