Meilin

I graduated from FIT in NYC with a degree in Fashion Design and I spent 16 years working hard in this industry, leading various design teams and successfully creating seasonal collections. For about 5 years I have volunteered at MTC (Matahari Terbit Center - center for underprivileged children with cerebral palsy, in Bali). As a team of volunteers, including therapists, we have produced a haven of love, structure, learning, and healing, for the children and their families. Aside from therapy, there is an array of subjects I assist in teaching such as English, math, arts and crafts, cooking, etc. I am involved in every step from teaching, organizing lesson plans to heading all marketing, fundraising, and creating their newsletters. This ongoing experience has cemented my desire to foster students’ development, continue to establish meaningful relationships, and to empower and encourage children and adults alike with tools to succeed. I love sharing knowledge, and this made me make a life and career path change, so here I am. I have tutored in English and Spanish and am loving being part of this community. During my childhood up to now I have lived (studied/worked) in countries as diverse as Indonesia, India, Kenya, Argentina, Switzerland, Ecuador, and Sri Lanka, and more. I feel this vast exposure to cultures, religions, ways of living, traditions, and so on, has enriched me with the capability to understand free of judgment and to have patience, to stay grounded in changing, unpredictable times, and to show compassion. I have a talent for languages, as I also speak fluent Spanish. I love traveling and the outdoors, Muay Thai training, writing poetry, and being surrounded by friends and family.
